Silvia Chocarro is a freedom of expression advocate. She is Global Advocacy Strategist for IFEX, a network of 119 organizations in 65 countries connected by a shared commitment to defend and promote freedom of expression as a fundamental human right. Silvia Chocarro is also a fellow at the Center for Media, Data and Society at the Central European University and a member of the Center for Freedom of the Media at the University of Sheffield. She has also worked as a journalist, whose last assignment was as US Correspondent for Radio France Internationale (RFI) from 2013 to 2016, where she covered the 2016 presidential campaign. In the past, she worked for UNESCO in the development of the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity. Her PhD dissertation, based on that experience, was about the role of the UN in promoting journalists’ safety from 1945 to 2015. She has recently published a guide on international standards on freedom of expression and she is the editor of "Nosotras en el país de las comunicaciones: voces y miradas de mujeres".
