#NEWSOCRACY Madrid has ended

#NEWSOCRACY brings together policy makers, academics, journalists, citizens and existing initiatives for transparency of media ownership structures to discuss media ownership concentration in Spain - and Europe. The event is hosted by the ECPMF, PDLI and OBCT.

In her 30 year-career, Banu Güven has worked both for print and broadcast media. In 2011, she was dismissed from the news channel NTV, where she anchored Late Night and Prime Time News for 14 years. She wrote an open letter to the ex-PM Erdoğan, addressing his tightening grip on media. 2014 - 2017 she worked for the critical news channel IMC TV anchoring Prime Time News, and produced documentaries. October 2016, the channel was closed as a result of a governmental decree. Since then she has been working freelance, contributed to Deutsche Welle Turkish, taz.gazete, WDR, SRF2, Stern.

Güven taught media courses at various universities. She attended the 2017 Summer School at CEU on “Media Capture”. She is a member of various initiatives including #haberSİZsiniz (broadcasting live on social media) @Ben_Gazeteciyim / @JournosInTurkey and the International Press Institute, IPI.

Güven is the holder of many awards, including the Henri Nannen Sonderpreis for her ‘‘Outstanding Performance in Journalism’’.
